KARACHI, July 13: Residents of D.D. Chowdhary Road in the Baghdadi Union Council area complained on Sunday that the overflowing sewerage lines in the locality had made their lives miserable.

The residents told Dawn that the area near Lyari Telephone Exchange was particularly affected with the accumulation of sewage water.

They said the stinking water had made the main exchange road impassable. They further said that the PTCL customers, who wanted to register their complaints with the customers service centre of the telephone department, had been facing a lot of difficulties.

They complained that sewerage lines in the locality often remained chocked, due to which sewage water had been overflowing in the area. The stagnant water on roads and other areas had been a breeding source for mosquitoes and flies, exposing people to various diseases, they added.

The residents maintained that the sewerage lines were laid in the locality at the time, when its population was too thin. They argued that the population had increased very much and the sewerage system had become in-operative, as it could not meet the needs of growing population.

They suggested that urgent steps should be taken to replace the existing sewerage system. They urged the authorities that a 48-inch-dia sewerage line should be installed, otherwise, the condition of the roads in the locality would be in shambles.

Meanwhile, the residents of Baghdadi complained that the Fidha Husain Shaikha Road in their area was impassable, because of potholes in several points.

They said the road had been in a dilapidated condition for quite some time, as no repair work had been carried out by the civic agency for the last several years.
