Those killed included both pilots operating the plane and an ordinary citizen.
The crash took place in Baldia Town's Yousuf Goth neighbourhood injuring at least eight on ground.
Witnesses said the plane had exploded mid-air and the rubble from the crash was spread far and wide.
Sajid Sadozai, a senior police official, said two buses parked at the terminal were destroyed while another was damaged. A number of nearby buildings also suffered structural damage.
TV footage showed plumes of black smoke rising from the site as rescue teams rushed in.
A PAF spokesman confirmed that both pilots flying the training jet had died in the crash, but could not give a cause for the incident.
Rescue teams and fire tenders had reached the site of the crash which took place near a bus terminal in the area.
The plane was described as a small fighter jet but its type is not yet known.

My request to PAF Air Chief Marshal: Please use modern fighter jets if we can.

There is a Dassault Mirage 5 and a Dassault Mirage 3 that are currently in service both of which have a history of crashes and most of them are used. I wonder why they didnt eject. Saddened to hear that the pilots didn't survive.

I have a feelings it is a Mirage aircraft, they are way past their shelf life even though they have gone through mid life upgrades. If the plane exploded mid air then they need to ground the entire fleet of Mirages, investigate the cause of the explosion, inspect the other planes ensuring that the same fault does not pop up on another plane. Its standard procedure in most modern Air Forces but since we believe in the idea of tawakul, might as well fit some wings on rickshaw and fly that sucker too.

One of the pilots was a senior of mine Cadet Khurram Samad at Pakistan Steel Cadet College, a real gentleman that I'd known there. You definitely will be missed. I hope your family finds peace after your loss. They, I'm sure will be proud for you embracing Shahadat.

Pakistanis should be proud that it has a far far greater safety record than that of India.
In India, the airforce had over 100 jet fighter crashes with as many pilot deaths. Just imagine!

@Mudassar Khokhar These are not outdated aircraft. Still a potent and reliable weapon it is. Hundreds of flights are generated by these aircraft. But this is the life of any fighter aircraft and a fighter pilot..

I witnessed this crash.
I can confirm that plane broke on crash, not before impact.
There was no engine noise, so it must have "flamed out" earlier.
Brave crew managed to crash in clear area, both petrol pump and main Quetta Bus terminal could have been the point of impact.
I saw them struggling above PNS Atish, maybe due loss of hydraulics. They should have ejected.
I was at Attock fuel station, just 200m from point of crash.
May Allah accept their sacrifice.
My thoughts are with family members of the crew.

RIP to the personnel and the civilian killed. Bless their souls. Sad fat for Pakistani nation. If it was a small jet trainer then it would probably be the K8 Karakoram- a reliable and excellent platform. PAF must investigate what happened- which I'm sure they already are.

One of the pilots, Khurram Samad was my cousin and a brother to me. Please pray to Almighty that He may accept my cousins Shadath.
Khuram as I knew used to be the brightest kid in the family, he had been our hero and will remain the same. He got admitted to NED in 93-94 batch but chose PAF over Mechanical Engineering and today he has sacrificed his life. Khurram has left the entire family in tears. RIP my friend.

Not exactly in one year but over several. These were mostly MIG 21's which where named flying coffins. But there were plane crashes of British, French and US origins.

@Irfan Such are the brave Jawans of our forces, even when death stares them in the face they think first of saving other's lives first. To answer some of the queries here, it is a norm for Pakistani Fighter plane pilots to first make sure that their planes do not crash into large population centers and cause massive casualties -- even if they have to give their own lives doing it.
