PESHAWAR, July 11: An Afghan leader here on Thursday condemned the mob attack on the Pakistan embassy in Kabul and called upon Afghanistan and Pakistan to settle their disputes through negotiations.

“The attack is an ugly attempt to sabotage the brotherly relations between the two countries,” Haji Hayatullah, leader of Shura of Understanding and National Unity of Afghanistan, said in a press release here.

Regretting the incident, Mr Hayatullah said those involved in the raid on Pakistan embassy in Kabul were not sincere with Afghanistan.

He was confident that those aspiring to ruin Afghanistan’s brotherly relations with Pakistan would fail in their nefarious designs as the two countries had common culture, religion and history.

The Afghan leader called upon Islamabad and Kabul to sort out their problems through dialogue, and refrain from making any move that could give an opportunity to the vested interest to destroy the good relations between the two countries.

He said it was incumbent upon Kabul to ensure the safety and security of diplomatic missions and their staff so as to prevent any future mishaps.

Referring to the border dispute in the Mohmand tribal region along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Mr Hayatullah said this was the result of some misunderstanding which could be cleared only through table talk.

He appealed to Islamabad to show restraint and patience to ensure that the Kabul incident did not have any negative fall out.
