BADIN: The Sindh government has decided in principle to make Matli a district comprising five tehsils i.e. Matli, Tando Ghulam Ali, Talhar, Dei at Rajo Khanani and Tando Ghulam Haider, it is reliably learnt.

PPP MNA Sardar Kamal Khan Chang confided to Dawn on Tuesday that the decision had been taken on public demand and a notification to this effect was likely to be issued within a few days.

Sources said that the elected representatives from Badin held meetings with PPP co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari and other senior leaders late on Monday night in Karachi and succeeded in convincing them to create the new district.

Sardar Chang said that Tando Bago and Pangrio could also become part of the new district depending on the consent of the people of these areas.

He said the propsed Malti district would remain part of the Hyderabad division.

He said that the top party leadership had given him the task of ascertaining all stakeholders’ views on the proposal.

Most of the elected representatives concerned were present at the Karachi meeting and favoured the move, according to sources.

A revenue official, who wished not to be named, said that the homework for the creation of the new district was almost complete, and added that if Tando Bago tehsil was included in the new district, then Badin district would be left with on only two talukas, Badin and Shaheed Fazil Rahu.

He said that Kadhan and Khoski would be made tehsils and added to Badin district, the same revenue official said.
