ISLAMABAD, July 10: Ata Miran and Saira Fazal have been chosen to represent Pakistan at the IAAF World Athletics Championships in Paris next month.

A spokesman for the Pakistan Amateur Athletics Federation (PAAF) said on Thursday that Ata would compete in the 1500m at the championships that are slated to run between Aug 23 and 31. Saira on the other hand will take part in the 100m competition.

Ata, of Army won a bronze medal in his distance at the 9th Brunei Asian Junior Championships in 2001 while Saira, who comes from Wapda, has a 4x200m relay silver to show, a medal won at the Islamic Women’s Games in Iran the same year.

Meanwhile president of the PAAF Maj Gen Safdar Hussain and secretary Khalid Mahmood are to attend the IAAF Congress in Paris that precedes the World Championships.

After the Congress, to be held from August 19 to 21, Khalid will act as the manager of the Pakistan athletics team.
