Campaigning in India's bitterly fought election entered its last day May 10 ahead of next week's final voting with the Hindu nationalist opposition already scenting victory. Rahul Gandhi, heading the campaign of the ruling Congress party which is seen heading for a crushing defeat, sought to muster a final show of strength in the holy Hindu city Varanasi.

Varanasi will go to the polls on May 12, the final day of voting, with Kejriwal running from the constituency against Narendra Modi, the prime ministerial candidate of India’s main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Around 815 million people have registered to vote in the world's biggest election - a number exceeding the population of Europe and a world record - and results of the mammoth exercise are due on May 16.
