The PCB is making a fool out of everyone: Mohsin

Former Pakistan batsman and chief selector Mohsin Khan hit out at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for “making a fool” out of the public with the appointment of the head coach of the national team.

Pakistan cricket chiefs on Tuesday appointed fast bowling legend Waqar Younis for a second spell as head coach.

The 42-year-old had been tipped as favourite to take over the role vacated by Australian coach Dav Whatmore, whose contract expired in March.

Former wicketkeeper Moin Khan, who filled in as interim coach, guided Pakistan to the Asia Cup final but a poor performance in the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh meant his contract was not extended.

But Mohsin Khan, who as interim head coach helped Pakistan complete a 3-0 Test-series sweep against the then world No 1 England in the United Arab Emirates early in 2012, termed the PCB’s coach hunt a “drama”.

“What was the point in lying to everyone? If they had already made up their mind on who they were going to pick, why did they advertise for the position of head coach?” Khan asked at a press conference in Karachi.

“I had applied for the post when the PCB advertised for the head coach along with other [support staff] positions. But the board opted to ignore the process it had laid down for the appointment.”

Khan particularly took PCB chairman Najam Sethi to task.

“What do you expect when you have such a chairman in charge? This is Pakistan’s cricket board, the people’s board. But they’re running it like their family owns it. This chairman only needs yes-men around him.”

Former Pakistan Test off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq, who had also applied for the chief coach as well as bowling coach, said, “To be honest I have no idea because no one called me for interview.”

You are called for the interview only if you are considered to be in the running for the job. Just because you applied for the post does not mean you have a right to an interview. If Mohsin Khan ever did a proper job in his life, he would know how the process works. The PCB did not want Mohsin Khan so they did not interview him. For him to continue to complain in the press is not only annoying but also sad, as it shows how desperate he is to get on the PCB payroll.

This is how Pakistan works, from top to bottom. If we were honest and lawabiding nation, country would have been much better for everyone. When a Prime Minister lives in a palace and his nation is sleeping hungry, don't expect honesty from his officials. Mohsin has valid point but at the same time he should not feel discouraged, and find a job out of Pakistan like rest of us.

Sour grapes...... Applying for the job doesn't mean you are guaranteed an interview in the real world. Pakistani ex cricketers are so full of themselves and un sportsmanly. Retire from national cricket and coach in the private sector Mr. Mohsin I am sure you can help other youngsters in achieving national level.

Everyone knows Mr. Sethi is not up to the job, from all his public pronouncements to the manner in which his decision making is conducted. Too much money and too many corrupt people. Unfortunately, that's a recipe for doom for Pakistani cricket.

Very sad. Mohsin, look in the real world, not all those who apply for a job are called for an interview. Your previous stint as head coach of Pakistan was successful because of the hard work put in by Waqar before you. If nothing else, at least learn this from Waqar, after Moin was preferred over him as head coach, he congratulated him whole heartedly and insisted that he should be given an extended run as head coach.

Honestly, I least expected such reaction from Mohsin. I thought he had more sense and would have gained respect by supporting well deserving Waqar like Wasim Akram did. Why behave like children?

We all know the PCB is making a fool out of everyone, PCB has always done that. Mohsin you have made your point, now maintain your dignity. Luckily the man appointed (waqar) is a capable coach, support him and move on.

Why are you lot bashing Mohsin Khan ? It is his right to ask questions if the PCB has followed incorrect procedures. Mohsin Khan has every eason to be unhappy - he was abruptly removed from the team and we all know what happened next. If you are allowed to moan and groan here just for the sake of a comment, why shouldn't he do as he has good reason too.

@ivehadit Being an appointee of none other than the PM it is natural that this man Sethi has feelings of arrogance and thus sort of dictatorship too....simply because he knows it too well that he can not be touched by any one...if PM is on his side, due to having helped N- league in winning elections as alleged by Imran Khan . It is widely believed by all and sundry that Sethi's appointment as PCB Chief is not on merit for sure and that he has been installed only due to his capability to manipulate things either way as seen in his tv show.

I am not a supporter of Mr. Najam Sethi at all, but the non professional approach of Mr. Mohin khan is remarkable, he takes credit of 3-0 defeat of England but I fail to understand how could have he trained Pakistan when he took over just a month or two before the series. The main credit for the England series win goes to Waqar Younus because he was coaching Pakistan team for a year and half and he resigned just before the series. Mr. Mohsin Khan wake up you cant at all take credit to what you havent done.

It is sad that even the prominent people in Pakistan cry if and when they are not successful in any career move. Moin Khan, Mohsin Khan are very sensible, financially well off cricketers. They did not say anything when they were appointed , why did they think that there were no others equally well qualified if not better. Get real and find a job in the cricket world if that is the only avenue you can travel on. If you are any good and hold a job any where in the world you will prove your point.

He is 100 percent right but who cares in the corridors of power in Islamabad currently crowded by the two brothers and their cronies. In fact, the present set-up of PCB led by hand-picked chair whose only merit is to design, fabricate, apply, spearhead, commission and successfully execute the infamous 35-puncture episode last year in the 2013 general elections. What a shame?

Dear Mr Mohsin, this is really bad that pcb did not even interview you for the post and just gave the position to waqar younis. I am sorry that you have been disappointed. However, lets focus on future.Your acumen for cricket is awesome. I like your expert analysis on ptv sports. Maybe this is for the best. Looking forward to seeing you as an expert analyst on paklanka test series. Regards

It's a pity that Dawn Newapper would not print anything against their own man Najm Sethi. If the Pakistani courts were free they would disband PCB and abolish the title of patron-in-chief. The sports governing body should hold a free and fair election from regional and departmental cricket teams from all over Pakistan, for the chairman of the cricket board who would select a panel to write the constitution and policies of the board. The panel should be given a deadline.
