KARACH, Dec 16: The electoral campaign between the two contesting panels for the offices of the Pakistan Arts Council Karachi for the year 2002 is gaining momentum with each passing day.

Abdul Haseeb Khan, a known pharmacist contesting for the office of vice-president, addressed an Aftar dinner meeting on Saturday and explained his credentials.

AHK has two successful ventures to his credit - the founding of the Institute of Alternate Medicine (in PECHS) at a heavy cost and a research institute in pharmacy at the Karachi University campus.

With several plans in his mind to improve the lot of writers and artists, AHK said he believed service and shunned publicity.

Ms Qudsia Akber, secretary AC, contesting for the second term, explained how she and her team members had served the Council for two decades. They managed a library, an art gallery, a complex lighting and audio system for the open air theatre and many other acts of improvement, she added.

Noted artist Ms Rabia Zuberi, seeking a seat in the governing body of the Council, talked briefly about her future plans.

Others who spoke at the occasion included Aniq Ahmad and Abdul Hameed Chapra who vowed to wholeheartedly support the AHK panel.

The polling will be held on 30th December. Fateha was offered for the late TV artist, Farid Nawaz Baloch. — Hasan Abidi
