THATTA, July 8: With the rains increasing water level in the channels of different areas of Sindh, the incidents of canal breach are also on the rise as more breaches have occurred in the waterways of Nawabshah, Thatta and Larkana district.

A breach occurred in the Bathoro Wah and another in the Ghari Wah in the Mirpur Bathoro area on Tuesday as a result some 50 huts located near the shrine of Mehar Shah were inundated.

The breaches were plugged by the villagers after an effort of four hours. The villagers, later, staged a sit-in on Sujawal road to protest against the negligence of the irrigation authorities.

LARKANA: Two small breaches occurred in the Fatohal Shakh of the Noor Wah and the Gatt Shakh of the Naurang Wah on Tuesday.

Water gushing out of the breaches washed away recently transplanted paddy saplings.

Till the filing of this report, the breaches were not plugged though the villagers and the irrigation employees were busy in plugging them.

NAWABSHAH: A 10-foot wide breach occurred at 3L-RD of Jamal Shah Minor, Dad irrigation division, near Qazi Ahmed on Monday.

As a result, three villages including Ahmed Khan Zardari and Ali Khan Zardari Goth and standing cotton, banana, and sugarcane crops over 500 acres of land were badly affected.

The breach was plugged through joint efforts of the area irrigation staff and the villagers.
