LARKANA, July 8: The Larkana Taluka Council has failed to ensure that stagnant rainwater is drained out, that can lead to the outbreak of diseases.

The rains have affected areas of Allahabad, Kusar Mills, Phone Colony, Chandka Medical College Hospital, Pilot School Road, Fish Market, Royal Road, Gajanpur, Munwarabad, Jhangal Shah and kutchi abadis. Roads around the CMCH and the city block are flooded with water.

Prolonged power breakdowns and collapse of sewerage and drainage systems have further added to the problems of the people.

Residents of Munwarabad, where 50 kutcha houses collapsed, on Tuesday staged a demonstration outside the district Nazim’s office, demanding compensation for their loss.

The Nazim came out of his office and assured the protesters of financial assistance.

Residents of Allahabad and Airport Road area said their areas were without electricity for the last four days.

Warisdino Mashi union council Nazim Ghaus Bux Chandio criticized Hesco officials for disconnecting power supply to Wasayo Bhutto, Warisdino Mashi, Wada Bossan, Meenohoon Bhatti, Kamal Khan Chandio and many other villages for the last four days.

A boy, Abdul Khaliq Magsi, 14, and a girl, Tasleem, 18, were electrocuted in Ayoub Colony and Allahabad on Tuesday.

PPP: The People’s Party Parliamentarians has demanded that the government should declare Larkana a calamity-hit area as torrential rains have affected crops and properties in the district.

Speaking at a press conference in Kambar here on Tuesday, Larkana PPP president Nawab Shabir Ahmad Chandio said the rains had played havoc with Kacho, Kambar, Shahdadk, Warah, Naseerabad and other parts of the district. He also blamed Hesco officials for power breakdowns in the district.
