CAIRO, July 8: The al-Jazeera satellite channel on Tuesday broadcast what it said was a new audiotape from deposed president Saddam Hussein urging Iraqis to continue to resist United States and British occupation of their land.

The voice on the tape made a passionate appeal to all Iraqis, including Turks, Turkmens, Arabs, Shia, Sunnis as well as Christians to resist the occupation in any way they can.

It labelled individuals cooperating with the occupiers as “enemies of Allah and of the people,” and called on Iraqis to obstruct the occupiers and not to allow them “to settle on your land without losses.” The voice also promised “victory” to the Iraqis.

It also called for a boycott of the occupiers, “peaceful demonstrations” and “opening fire in the face of the occupation”, but suggested that covert methods were the best against the occupiers.

The authenticity of the tape could not be immediately determined and it was not clear when it was made, although the voice, said he was inside Iraq.

The Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation International broadcast a tape with the same message on Tuesday. —dpa
