US embassy in Sweden sealed off

STOCKHOLM, Dec 16: The US embassy in Stockholm was sealed off on Sunday after a car bomb alert triggered by a man trying to park a car nearby in a suspicious manner, police said.

The man, aged around 35, was arrested and his car was loaded into a special vehicle used for transporting explosives and driven away.

“The man was behaving in a strange manner and we decided to put in place our security measures,” said an official.

Bomb specialists removed objects from the car before it was loaded into the special vehicle. “We have taken every precaution, because in the present times we cannot ignore any alert,” a spokesman said.—AFP
