PESHAWAR, July 7: Unveiling the Rs386.8m development budget of the Peshawar city district government for the year 2003-04, city district Nazim Azam Afridi has termed insufficient the projected funds to be provided to the district government by the provincial government.

In his budget speech here on Monday, Mr Afridi said that in accordance with the provincial finance commission’s decision the city district government had received Rs71.4m for developmental schemes during the financial year just ended.

He said the city district government had expressed its reservations over the commission’s decision, because the ADP was inadequate keeping in view the population size and problems of the provincial capital.

Despite protest, he said, the provincial government did not enhance the size of ADP in the financial year for 2003-04. He maintained that 25 per cent of the ADP would be spent through Citizen Community Board (CCB), 10 per cent through union councils and 30 per cent through town councils.

According to the budget estimates for 2003-04 financial year, an estimated Rs18.6m are to be spent on ongoing district schemes under the Khushal Pakistan Programme (KPP).

A sum of Rs1.1m is to be provided for the ongoing social action programme schemes in the district, whereas education sector reform will receive Rs7.3m in the current year. For ongoing developmental schemes in the district, Rs170.5m have been earmarked whereas Rs100m have been projected for the new schemes.
