SHC seeks reply from govt, FIA over Musharraf's ECL plea

ISLAMABAD: The Sindh High Court has issued notices to the government and Federal Investigative Agency (FIA) over former president Musharraf’s application seeking removal of his name from the Exit Control List (ECL) and has directed them to submit their replies on April 23, DawnNews reported.

Earlier today, Musharraf’s counsel Barrister Farogh Naseem had submitted the application on the former president’s behalf, challenging the order of the Interior Secretary pertaining to inclusion of his name on the ECL.

A two-member bench of the SHC, headed by Justice Mohammad Ali Mazhar, immediately admitted the application for hearing.

Naseem presented his stance in the court and said that Musharraf wanted to travel overseas in order to visit his ailing mother upon which the court replied that it could not make a unilateral decision.

The court issued notices to the government and FIA and directed the federal interior secretary and Director General FIA to submit their replies before it on April 23.

Earlier on April 2, the government had rejected Musharraf’s application seeking removal of his name from the ECL.

how can his name be removed from ECL when he is the main accused and the matter is sub-judice, judges should not even have accepted this plea.

@mjk: Please understand ,he came back on his own will ,but they didnt allowed him to even participate in elections ,he was free even when he returned ,,,he was arrested the day he submitted his papers ,,Its just that the PMLN and PPP won't allow any one to enter politics .I don't feel sorry for him I feel sorry for this nation, we are left again at the mercy of the Currupts . Chances are he will return , of course the politicians don't want to give space to any one else .

@mohammad shafique: Acceptance and immediate action on his application is an indicative that a "political mukmuka" may already been reached upon. Because of his anti-Nation NRO Zardari Sahib and PPP got the chance to rule and to .... for 5 years with MQM partnership. MQM been the closest ruling ally of General Sahib in Center and Sind for such a long time. Now these 2 parties having remained great beneficiaries of Musharraf sahib are the main stake holders and political power of Sind and this is the time to repay to their benefactor. Yani huqqe namak bhi tu adaa karna haei. Whether general Musharraf Sahib remains in the Country or abroad what difference will it make to the common majority who any way have to live on the mercy of terrorists of all types, extortionists, abductors for ransom, criminally corrupts and marauders of all sorts as they been living since their Govts.

It is better if General Musharraf leaves the country, because even if he is in side the country there are not many chances that he will come back to power. The United States doesn't like honest people like him, and only people like Nawaz Shareef or Asif Zardari can serve the interest of the United States.
