KARACHI: Unseeded Sahibzada Mohammad Ali sent shock waves while getting the better of fourth seed Nazif Ahmed in straight sets to earn a place in juniors under-18 singles quarter-finals in the Essa Lab Open tennis championship at Karachi Club on Friday.

Mohammad Ali, a pupil of former Davis Cupper and now PTF coach Jalil Khan, get past his opponent 6-3, 6-2 to propel into last eight where he was joined by unseeded Zubaid Gul and third seed Talha Zubair Surmawala.

Meanwhile, the third day of the event saw at least five walkovers which reflect lack of interest of the players.

Results: Under-18 singles: First round: S Yawar Abbas bt Raheel Munir (walkover); Jalaluddin Babar (Mirpurkhas) bt Taha Hasan 6-0, 6-2.

Second round: Murad Khan bt Zubaid Gul 6-1, 6-2; Sahibzada Mohammad Ali bt Nazif Ahmed 6-3, 6-2; Talha Zubair Surmawala bt Shabbir Mohammad 6-0, 6-1.

Under-16 singles: First round: Nasrullah Khan bt Ajay C hauhan 7-5, 7-5; Shabbir Mohammad bt Bilal 6-2, 6-1; Noman Aftab bt Waqas 6-0, 6-0; Ebad Sarwar Hussain bt Khizer Imran (walkover); Jalaluddin Babar bt Abdul Samad (walkover).

Under- 14 singles: M Hamza bt Ibrahim Khan 0-6, 6-3, 10-7; Bilal Khan bt Mohammad Ali 6-0, 6-1; Nasrullah bt Nadir Ali (walkover); Abdullah Khan bt Mujahid 6-1, 3-0 (retired).
