TAXILA: Over 30 police qaumi razakars (PQR), serving at Wah Police station, were shown door for their alleged involvement in illegal practices and corruption.

The Police volunteer force, launched four and a half decades ago to assist police in filed duties of the police department, has become a symbol of corruption, malpractices and misuse of power.

They have been supporting crimes and fleecing the masses by erecting illegal pickets.

Official sources said that after a detailed probe and scrutiny conducted by high ranking police officials, over 30 PQRs of Wah Police station, including one PQR inspector, two sub inspectors, three assistant sub inspectors (ASI), one head constable and 25 constables, were found convicted. They have been accused of corruption, misuse of power and involvement in immoral and anti social activities.

According to sources, the probe revealed starling facts against this force, who were allowed to wear police uniform and outfits, as one inspector was found indulging in recruitment of people involved in criminal activities, one sub inspector was caught red handed while issuing bogus driving licenses, one sub inspector was found guilty of trapping, black mailing and minting money from a person through his wife and niece, while the head constable was found guilty of running a brothel in his house.

While three ASIs were found guilty of fleecing the masses through the misuse of power and extorting money by erecting pickets at different areas.

The probe reveals that people from the lower cadre had established contacts with criminals and anti social elements, and informed them before any raid conducted by the police.

These PQR were recruited under the West Pakistan Qaumi Razakars Rule of 1966, rule 20.
