ISLAMABAD, July 4: The district magistrate has issued notices to 12 prayer leaders of Islamabad for making provocative speeches against Dr Aslam Khaki, who challenged the Shariat Bill passed by the NWFP assembly and the degrees of 68 MMA legislators in the Supreme Court.

The decision has been taken by the district administration on the complaint of Dr Aslam Khaki.

Dr Khaki, in the complaint, said a number of prayer leaders issued edicts against him, saying that he was liable to be killed for opposing the Shariat Bill passed by the NWFP assembly.

According to Dr Khaki, the district magistrate ordered the administration to issue notices to the prayer leaders, asking them to confirm whether they had made such provocative speeches.

The administration has also provided two police guards to Dr Aslam Khaki for his protection.

Dr Khaki, an advocate by profession and jurisconsult of the Federal Shariat Court, first challenged the degrees of 68 MMA legislators and then the Shariat Bill.
