20 hurt in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, July 4: A bystander was killed and 20 people were injured on Friday when militants opened fire and launched grenades at the motorcade of a minister in occupied Kashmir’s government, police said.

Rural Development Minister Peerzada Mohammed Sayeed required hospital care for minor injuries to a leg after militants attacked his car at Larnu village in his home constituency of Kokernag, Anantnag district.

Ali Mahmood, the head of a local school, was killed in the attack, a police official said. Nineteen others were injured besides the minister.—AFP
