Crushing season begins

MIRPURKHAS, Oct 11: After a lapse of three years, Tharparkar Sugar Mill has started its crushing season.

The mill is installed between Samaro and Kot Ghulam Muhammad.

Before starting the crushing season, its management has recruited the staff mostly consisting non-locals.

Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz has joined a campaign with the affected growers and a protest demonstration was staged outside the mill on Wednesday by the affected growers and workers of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz. Hundreds of protestors raised slogans against the mill management and demanded that firstly to pay arrears of growers immediately and recruit locals. Few days ago, Syed Ali Nawaz Shah has inaugurated its crushing season.

NOTICES: Three tapedars have been issued show cause notices by the Mukhtiarkar, Mirpurkhas, on the charges of negligence and failure to implement the directives of the Mukhtiarkar. They included Khair Muhammad Mangrio of Tapa Bhutto Kot, Dhani Bux Bhambhro of Tapa Chatori and Manthar of Tapa Mirpurkhas.

TIGHT SECURITY: Security has been beefed up here in the wake of US attacks on Afghanistan and an unofficial emergency has been declared in the police and health department. Reports received here indicate that security has also been put on high alert at the border with India.
