SUKKUR: A twelve-year-old boy, Fateh Mohammad Nandwani, on Monday chaired a tribal court (jirga) and passed a decree ordering a man to pay a fine of Rs550,000 for maintaining extra-marital affair with a woman in Sabbar Nandwani village near Tangwani town of Kandhkot-Kashmore district.
The dispute was taken to the jirga after the rival sides failed to settle it amicably. A large number of people belonging to the two sides attended the jirga and accepted the decree announced by the young ‘judge’.
Anwar Nandwani paid Rs50,000 to the aggrieved family headed by Sanjha Nandwani on the spot and undertook to pay the remaining amount of the fine money within the next three months.

I actually like to concept of a jirga, only as a form of an impartial, out-of-court "dispute resolution" process. May increase harmony in a society and give people a forum to discuss and resolve civil issues.
However, I detest the idea of a jirga passing judgements, issuing verdicts and definitely not when headed by a 12-year old.

At least he did not order rape of women of the family of a party.
In that way, he is better than the 'elders'.
