DADU, July 3: The drainage system of the Johi town has collapsed due to negligence of the taluka municipal administration.

Drains are overflowing and heaps of garbage are lying at different places in the town.

Talking to this correspondent, residents of the town complained that they were paying taxes to the municipal administration but they had not been provided with civic facilities.

Councillor Pir Bux Babar of the Babar locality said drains in the area were overflowing but the sanitary staff had not paid any attention to the problem. He said the residents were using unhygienic water, which they had to fetch from two kilometres away.

Hakim Ali Leghari of the Mastoi area said heaps of garbage could be seen at different places in the locality. He said the water supply system had also collapsed in the town and the residents were using contaminated water for the last six months.

Village Shadbad Welfare Organization president Akbar Lashari said roads, water supply lines and the drainage system of the town, destroyed in 1995 floods, had yet not been repaired.

Meanwhile, a large number of residents of different localities of the Dadu town took out a procession here on Thursday to protest against the taluka municipal administration.

After marching through the main roads of the city, the protesters arrived at the local press club where they staged a demonstration for one hour.

They were led by Ghulam Nabi Suhag and Ghulam Shabbir Shah.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Suhag said the drainage system of Mehar Colony, DCO Colony, Taufeeq Colony, Azizabad and Karimabad had collapsed due to the inefficiency of the municipal administration.

He said the residents were living without facilities of water supply and roads.

RAILWAY TRAFFIC: Traffic on Dadu-Larkana railway track was restored late Wednesday night after a coach of a train, derailed on Wednesday at the Rehmani Nangar railway station, was removed from the track.
