GUJRANWALA, July 2: Five assistant linemen of Wapda’s Khiali sub-division were suspended from service on Wednesday on the charge of absence from their duty.

The Khiali SDO checked the attendance register and found that Shahbaz Ali, Qayyum, Riasat Ali, Sabir Ali and Sabir Cheema marked their attendance and slipped away from the office. He suspended all of them after an inquiry which found them guilty of the charge. They were also issued show-cause notices. He also recommended the high-ups to suspend lineman Rashid Ahmad forthwith.

SATISFACTION: The Joint Action Committee of Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association and Pakistan Medical Association expressed their satisfaction over the reinstatement of sacked teachers and doctors.

Speaking at a meeting here on Wednesday presided over by JAC coordinator Prof Mahboob Ahmad, PMA president Dr Ishtiaq Safder Tarer and others termed it a success of the principled stand of teachers and doctors.

They said that it was due to the sacrifices of teachers and doctors that the government had accepted their demands of elimination of board of governors at DHQ hospitals and the privatization of nationalized educational institutions.

They assured their central leaders Prof Syed Nazim Hussain, Prof Dr Yasmin Rashid, Prof Majid Wazir and Prof Abdul Khaliq Nadim that all organizations of teachers and doctors would extend their cooperation in future as well.

The meeting demanded that all pending demands of teachers and doctor regarding their pay scale and selection grades should be resolved instantly.

WARNED: The City Tehsil Council has warned building contractors that their payment will be withheld after the cancellation of on-going uplift projects if they use substandard material.

At a meeting held here on Wednesday presided over by City Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad, the participants expressed their concern that some building contractors were using substandard material and demanded stern action against them.
