Two arrested for screening ‘pro-Taliban’ film

SIALKOT: Bambanwala police have registered a case against two brothers under 16 MPO for arranging screening of an alleged pro-Taliban documentary in Mitranwali village, Daska tehsil, on Monday.

According to the first information report registered on the report of Sub-Inspector Muhammad Younas, Shafiqur Rehman and Aneesur Rehman had arranged a screening of an alleged pro-Taliban documentary in their drawing room-cum-medical store for locals. The suspects also preached ‘Talibanisation’ there.

The report stated the act was against national interest and hampered maintenance of peace there. Police arrested the suspects and sent them behind bars.

@ahmad: There's actually been quite a bit of unnecessary media support for the Taliban, which jeopardised operations like Lal Masjid, which seem to have been done for legitimate reasons, but were chastised by the media.

@Randomstranger: i agree with you one hundred percent.... we all should have the freedom of expression and freedom of speech.... Violence can be curbed down if we let our anger out by expressing our self, opinion heard are heard and calmly understanding each other. The role of the intellectual / media cannot be to excuse the violence of one side and condemn that of the other.

@ahmad: Taliban or taliban apologists shouldn't have been given airtime on the media to begin with. In a war you have to choose the side you are on. About the point of view, they have been expressing their point of view over the years and the dead men, women and kids of Pakistan can pretty much attest to the facts.

very good, well done. Sialkot police need to be appreciated for this type of vigil which is very necessary to stop any further spread of Talibanisation. Hope police of other cities / districts will also keep such vigil and bring the culprits to book.
