Tribunal disqualifies PML-N's Aijaz Chaudhry over fake degree

ISLAMABAD: An election tribunal on Friday disqualified Aijaz Chaudhry, an MNA from the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N), for possessing a bogus academic degree, DawnNews reported.

Chaudhry was elected on NA-108 (Mandi Bahauddin) on a PML-N ticket.

His rival candidate, Mumtaz Ahmad, had filed the appeal to seek his disqualification on the basis of a bogus graduation degree.

In Dec 2013, the Lahore High Court (LHC) had restrained the tribunal from deciding on the appeal for Chaudhry’s disqualification.

Chaudhry had challenged the tribunal’s proceedings and had pleaded that the matter of his degree had already been settled by the LHC, submitting that his rival had concealed the facts.

he contested and won as an independent candidate and later joined PMLN. Mumtaz Tarar was PMLN candidate.

Just disqualified? No Jail ? no fine? to fool the entire nation, lying to Judiciary, and wasting millions in election resources? what about the votes he participated in the assembly and wasted its precious time? what kind of punishment is this. It is just like if someone steals, court get the stolen items from the theft and release him.

@Lahore wala: Come on, Dasti has nothing to do with this case. Dasti is a good man and doing good service to the people who elected him. We need more details of the reasons as to why the tribunal decided to disqualify Aijaz Ch.

@hasan: Couldn't agree more. What kind of kangaroo courts do we have that only disqualifies these people and they are free to do whatever they want. Why should they not be sent to jail for a year or two to make sure no one repeats these kind of crimes. How shameful.
