MANSEHRA: The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) will soon launch a campaign to check the sale of spurious drugs and substandard food items in the district.
The decision was taken in the council meeting chaired by Shahjahan Khan Swati here on Tuesday.
Assistant commissioner Qasim Ali Khan, who is the CPC secretary general, also attended the meeting and ordered the officials concerned to take prompt action against price hike and sale of substandard goods.
Representatives of food, health and livestock departments, municipal committee and district council attended the meeting.
A committee, constituted in the last meeting, revealed that Indian and spurious drugs were being sold in local markets, but the district drug inspector was not taking action in this regard.
A team of district health officials was constituted to check the sale of spurious drugs and the medical laboratories involved in malpractices.
The AC said that those found involved in sale of substandard goods would be fined or put behind bars.
BALAKOT PROBLEMS: The women lawmakers of PML-N will strive for solving problems being faced by Balakot women since 2005 earthquake, said MNA Tahira Bukhari while speaking at a gathering of women in Balakot.
“We are here to know about your problems and take them up on the floor of National Assembly for solution,” she said. Ms Tahira and MPAs Sobia Khan, Yasmin Zaman and Faiza Malik of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz visited Balakot and Garlat areas and met with women the other day.
“I was shocked to see how women here are still living in small shelters,” she said. The local women apprised the PML-N lawmakers about the hardships they have been facing since 2005 when a powerful destroyed the Balakot city.
The New Balakot City housing project, which was scheduled to be completed in 2010, was still in the doldrums. Mr Bukhari told the women that she would raise the issue of Balakot housing project on the floor of National Assembly on March 25.
She said that if people of Balakot staged a protest in Islamabad the women lawmakers of his party would also participate in it.
