MUZAFFARABAD: A student of ninth grade collapsed on-stage, while performing in a school play, in the southern city of Kotli, on Saturday.

Maryam Rashid, aged 14, was the daughter of Rashid Mughal.

She was acting in a drama during a farewell party organised at Abidah Malik Government Girls High School Number 1, when suddenly she fainted and tumbled down the stage.

“Initially, the audience thought that it was a part of the drama, but within a moment we realised that something had gone wrong,” Tasneem Kauser, senior Arabic teacher in the school told Dawn.

The girl was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in an unconscious state where the doctors pronounced her dead on arrival, she said, adding that a cardiac arrest was described as the cause of death.

The teenage girl, regarded as a bright student, was buried in a local graveyard in the evening hours.
