KHAIRPUR, June 29: Six persons, including four of a family, were shot dead and two others injured by unidentified assailants in Gul Mohammad Khorkhani village, Kingri taluka, on Sunday.
Ten armed men attacked the house of Ranjhan Khorkhani and opened fire on the inmates. As a result, Ali Nawaz, Ayaz Ali, Ms Gul Naz, two-year-old Shabbir, all of the same family, and its guests, Anwar Ali Mari and Bagan Dahani, were killed and Mr Ranjhan and his relative, Ghulam Ali, were injured.
Reason behind the incident was said to be a matrimonial dispute between the two groups of the Khorkhani tribe, adds our Sukkur correspondent adds.
The Faiz Mohammad Bindo police raided several places to arrest the culprits and have rounded up some suspects after Ghulam Sarwar, the brother of Nawaz, lodged a case against Nooro Khorkhani and others.
ACCIDENT: : Two labourers were killed and 10 others were injured in a head-on collision between two trucks (RIH-6895 and AE-0389) in Khairpur on Sunday.
Those killed were identified as Abdul Razzaq and Ranjhan. The injured were admitted to the Kot Diji Civil Hospital.
Nine of the injured were identified as drivers Jawed Ali and Mohammad Jurial, Ghulam Nabi, Deengar, Pakhi, Kamal, Ubal, Qurban Ahmad and Imdad Ali.
CANALS BREACHED: The Mohabbat Wah developed a 40-foot-wide breach on Sunday, inundating standing crops of dates, cotton and margarine.
The gushing water damaged crops near the Sugar Mills Khairpur, Kot Diji taluka, and has reached the National Highway.
Weak embankments and excessive flow of water are said to have caused the breach.
Meanwhile, a 30-foot-wide breach occurred in the Hameer Shakh near Ripri, Kingri taluka, on Saturday.
Cotton, sugarcane and banana crops standing over hundreds of acres and many houses were inundated. The breach was plugged by villagers as no irrigation official reached the spot.
POWER : Power supply to over 80 villages and 40 tube-wells was suspended after some people stole 11,000kv wires from three poles in the Mohammad Ali Shah village, near Priyaloi.
