A press release issued by the DPO here on Sunday confirmed that about 10 cases of acid attack had been reported during the last one month. Two children were killed and 10 suffered serious burn injuries in these attacks in Bahawalpur, Ahmedpur East and in the limits of other police stations.

The DPO claimed that all the accused involved in the crime were arrested and jailed. Police were making efforts for strict punishment to them from courts to discourage the recurrence of such ugly crime.

About the drive against the illegal trade of acid, the DPO said that shopkeepers selling the acid illegally and the people purchasing it would be treated as accused. They would be challaned along with the accused involved in acid attacks, he said.

The DPO warned all the shopkeepers and traders dealing in acid to maintain complete record of the acid sale and purchase in a special register. They should keep an eye on suspects who wanted to take acid for any unlawful purpose and be informed police about them immediately, he said.

The press release also urged the general public to cooperate with the police to track down such suspects.
