Officials suspended

KHAIRPUR, June 28: Three irrigation officials were suspended on Friday for their alleged hand in the water theft.

The secretary irrigation, on the directive of provincial

minister for irrigation, Syed Sadaruddin Shah, suspended executive engineer irrigation, east division, Khairpur, Amir Bux Khushik, assistant executive engineer Mirwah sub-division, Mohammad Haroon Mojai, and assistant executive engineer, Faiz Ganj sub-division, Sultan Ahmed Hajano.

The growers of the talukas of Faiz Ganj, Kot Diji and Thari Mirwah had complained about water shortage at the tail-end areas, alleging that local irrigations officials had allowed influential landlords to temper with modules.

WATER SHORTAGE: Sobhodero growers led by Ghulam Abbas Shah continued their protest on Friday near Saghiyoon against a shortage of water in Girkino, Teekino, and Mehrab canals.

They blocked the Saghiyoon-Sobhodero link road and observed a sit-in on it.

NPP: National Peoples Party leader Begum Rehana Abbasi has said that the Thal Canal schemes is aimed at to render Sindh lands barren.

She was seaking at a gathering of women workers here the other day.

She demanded intervention of the federal government in the matter.

JUI: The Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam has announced to launch a campaign to create an awareness about the negative implications of the Thal canal on the agriculture sector of water-starved Sindh.
