PESHAWAR, June 28: Two women artistes here on Saturday charged the station house officer (SHO) of police station Shah Qabool of falsely implicating them in a case and have requested the NWFP government and the Inspector General of Police to take action against him.

The artistes, Miss Rubi Anwer and her sister Miss Shano Anwer were arrested by the police two days ago on charges of committing obscene acts. They were later on released by a local court.

Speaking at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club, Ms Rubi Anwer requested the IGP to order an inquiry into the incident and provide exemplary punishment to the SHO so that in future he should not misuse the law.

She said they were present at their residence at Aasia Gate when some guests visited them, asking them to participate in their stage show on July 5.

She said her father was also present on that occasion. She added that she turned down their request as they had to go to Dubai on July 1. In the meantime, she said the SHO, Habib Shah and ASI Gareebullah with other policemen entered their residence without women constables and a proper search warrant.

Miss Anwer said the SHO asked about the presence of the said guests and she informed him that they were there to invite her to a stage show.

However, she added, the SHO used abusive language and in return she had also to abuse him. She added that they were taken to police station where the SHO asked for a bribe of Rs 50,000 and on her refusal a case was registered against her under section 294.

She said they would file suit for damages against the SHO and also move the high court. She added that they  were respectable citizens and for the sake of money the SHO had defamed them.
