KFOR arrests Arab workers in Kosovo

PRISTINA, Dec 15: Peacekeepers in Kosovo have arrested three Arabs on suspicion of involvement in planning terrorist attacks against targets in Europe and the United States, a spokesman for the Kosovo Peacekeeping Force (KFOR) said on Saturday.

The arrests took place on Friday afternoon as part of a joint KFOR and UN police operation in the offices of the Global Relief Foundation (GRF), a non-government organization (NGO), in the capital Pristina and in the town of Djakovica.

A collection of documents and equipment of the NGO were confiscated.

Three Arabs including the chief of the local GRF office, Ahmet Said, were arrested, KFOR said.

A KFOR statement released shortly after midnight stated that the operation took place after KFOR received credible information that individuals working with the NGO “may have been directly involved in supporting world wide international terrorist activities”.

Global Relief Foundation is a US based NGO with its headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, and a European branch in Brussels, Belgium.

KFOR said the raid at GRF offices in Kosovo took place as part of an orchestrated world-wide operation coordinated with governments and law enforcement agencies.—dpa
