ATTOCK: Returning officers (ROs) in the district have accepted 436 of the total 486 nominations filed for the 77 councillor seats of the local government (LG) elections.

These elections, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), will be held on January 30.

Statistics in this regard were provided by Assistant Director Local Government (ADLG) Attock Jahangir Akhtar Mirza who is also the focal person of the LG elections in the district.

Attock district comprises of six tehsil municipal committees, and the number of nominations filed in each committee is provided in the table.

Scrutiny of Union Councils’ seats

Meanwhile, the nomination papers for 71 union councils’ seats in Attock district are still being scrutinised.

Earlier, 2,903 candidates had filed nomination papers for the 923 seats in these 71 union councils. Each council has 13 seats comprised of a chairman, vice chairman and 11 members.

Except for 55 nomination papers filed for 14 union councils of Hazro tehsil, the scrutiny of 2,344 nomination papers in the remaining five tehsils (Attock, Jand, Hasanabdal, Fatehjang and Pindigheb) have been completed by the respective ROs.

According to the statistics, 2,184 nomination papers have been accepted out of a total 2,344.

When asked about the delay in the scrutiny process in Hazro tehsil, ADLG Mirza said the respective RO had left on medical leave.

However, he said the ECP had allowed the assistant RO to complete the scrutiny process, he added.
