KHAIRPUR, June 21: A large number of activists of Awami Tahreek took out a procession here on Thursday against the construction of Thal canal.

Local party leaders, Sattar Mahar and Anwar Pardesi, led the procession which started from the Mariam Taub and ended at the Panj Gulla Chowk.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders urged the government to stop work on the Thal canal.

KILLED: A youth, Qurban Ali Mari, was killed by two armed men on Thursday evening in Ripri, Kingri taluka.

An FIR was lodged by his relatives at the Ahmedpur police station against two persons. The motive behind the murder could not be ascertained.

ROBBED: A wedding party was robbed on the Khairpur-Ahmedpur road on Wednesday night when it was returning from Pir-Jo-Goth after attending a marriage ceremony of Ashfaq Ahmed Kumbhar.

Some ten highwaymen intercepted it near Pir Hothi Nothi and snatched cash, gold jewellry and other valuables worth thousands of rupees. Bride and her groom were among the robbed.

HESCO: The Hesco, Khairpur division, disconnected the power supply to two water supply schemes of Khairpur town being run by the Taluka Council, Khairpur, due to non-payment of bills on Thursday.

Later, the connections were restored when District Nazim Syed Nafisa Shah, discussed the issue with the chief executive, Hesco. However, the power supply to the office of the Taluka Council remained disconnected.
