ISLAMABAD: Police on Tuesday discovered five kilograms of explosive materials, weapons and ammunition close to the route that former military ruler General (retd) Pervez Musharraf's was due to take from his house to the court, DawnNews reported.

Police recovered five kilograms of explosive material in a plastic bag, two pistols, three magazines, 16 bullets, two detonators and five yards of detonator wire near the farmhouse of the former military strongman.

The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) team were called in who arrived at the scene and examined the explosives.

A police official told AFP the explosive material had not been assembled into a bomb.

A case was registered at Shahzad town police station.

Contradictory claims were reported by both the police and Rangers personnel, deputed for the security, regarding the credit for discovery of the weapons and explosives.

Earlier this year in April, 45 kilograms of explosives were discovered in a car abandoned near Musharraf’s farmhouse when he was being taken back there after his appearance in an anti-terrorism court in Rawalpindi.

After conducting a search, officials found the explosives were rigged to fuses, detonator and remote control, as if ready to blow up and needed only detonation from remote control.
