ISLAMABAD, June 20: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has decided to designate its main library as the central repository for housing PhD/M.Phil thesis and research journals produced at public sector universities, an official statement said.

The research work of students belonging to government run universities and degree awarding institutions all over the country will be available at the Higher Education Commission library. As a result, the HEC library will become a centralized source of research publications for all universities, degree-awarding institutions and research and development organizations in and outside the country.

Although, quality research work is being done in the country, there isn’t any single place from where one can access thesis or journals for reference purpose. Therefore, the Higher Education Commission central library will be of great benefit to the research students, the statement said.

In this regard, it said, Higher Education Commission chairman Prof (Dr) Attaur Rehman had directed all vice chancellors and heads of public sector universities and institutions of higher education to provide copies of PhD/ M.Phil thesis of every discipline offered in their institutions as well as any additional publications such as research journals.

The library will greatly facilitate the people conducting research in basic, applied, natural, health, engineering sciences, social needs and humanities etc.
