MUNICIPAL BUS STAND: An army monitoring team and police officials foiled district Nazim’s bid to shift the municipal wagon and bus stand to their previous private sites, Dawn learnt here on Friday.
Sources said DCO Agha Nadeem, under the directives of District Nazim Chaudhry Shafaat Husain, had ordered to shift the municipal wagon stand to the previous sites. These stands had been shifted jointly by the army monitoring cell and administration some four months ago as they had become a permanent cause of traffic hazards, they added. Also lack of security prompted them to relocate these stands.
Gujrat tehsil Naib Nazim Mian Haroon Masood, also a transporter, had reportedly requested the Nazim to use his influence in the shifting of these stands.
Traffic DSP, Mahmoodul Hassan Qureshi and SSP Riaz Ahmad brought the situation into the notice of Col Zaheer of the monitoring cell, sources said.
Police sources quoted SSP Riaz Ahmad as saying that they would play their role in shifting Mr Masood’s stand to the site of the municipal stand.
