HYDERABAD, June 20: A driver, Nasrullah, drowned in the River Indus in the jurisdiction of the Qasimabad police here on Thursday after he jumped into the river to save himself from the firing of some occupants of a car.

His cousin, Rizwan, who also jumped into the river, survived by swimming.

The Qasimabad police have, however, registered the report of the incident as an accident and denied that the deceased and his cousin were fired upon by anybody.

The body of the driver was brought to the local Civil Hospital for postmortem.

According to Rizwan, Nasrullah, resident of Mandi Bahauddin was driving a dumper of the Zeal Pak Cement Factory.

He said that as their vehicle passed through the Auto Bhan Road, it caused some inconvenience to the occupants of a parked car.

Mr Rizwan said that Nasrullah accelerated the speed of his vehicle, fearing retaliation by the occupants of the car, who chased their vehicle up to the bank of the River Indus. He said that they were also fired at from the car, forcing them to jump into the river.
