KARACHI: Poll plea dismissed

Published June 21, 2003

KARACHI, June 20: an election tribunal comprising Justice Zawar Hussain Jaffery of the Sindh High Court on Friday dismissed the election petition of Amar Lal against MPA Ishwar Das, in which he had challenged the declaration of respondent as returned candidate on the seat reserved for the minorities.

The respondent’s counsel sought dismissal of the petition on the ground that the petitioner had joined only nine contesting candidates as respondent, whereas there were 84 contesting candidates, and had failed to join such 7 5 other contesting candidates. It was further submitted that the amended petition had been signed and verified by the petitioner, and thus it was liable to be dismissed.—PPI
