LAHORE, Dec 14: The Attock Jail administration has submitted a report to the Punjab governor regarding stitching of lips by a convict.
The report says that the convict, Amjad Ali, then removed the stitches on his own on the warning issued to him by the jail superintendent. Later, he was shifted to the Central Jail, Mianwali, to avoid any further clash and ensure peace in the Attock jail, it adds.
The convict stitched his lips in protest against his solitary confinement in a separate cell, known as “Kasuri Chakki.”
Quoting the jail superintendent, the reports denies charges that the convict was kept in unlawful confinement and was not allowed medical assistance despite his illness.
The superintendent claims that the convict is a hardened criminal involved in dacoities and car snatching.
He attacked an under-trial prisoner which created law and order situation in the jail four months ago.
To avoid any clash with the prisoners, the convict was kept in a separate cell where he stitched his lips, the superintendent says.
The report says Amjad had previously been kept in the district jails of Rawalpindi, Jhelum and Mianwali where he created law and order situation by indulging in different illegal activities.
