RAWALPINDI, Dec 14: A man was killed and his daughter sustained critical injuries after their motorcycle plunged into a deep ravine on Simli Dam Road Thursday night, police and hospital authorities said.

Ishfaq Qurashi was on his way home with his daughter, Hina Ishfaq, when due to darkness their motorbike veered off the road while crossing a bridge and plunged into a ravine. As a result, Qurashi died on the spot and the girl was injured.

The dead and injured were shifted to the Federal Government Services Hospital, where the girl was said to be in stable condition.

POLICE OFFICERS’ COURSE: The Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) director general, Syed Mohib Asad, has called upon the police officers to utilize their capabilities to the maximum to eradicate terrorism and heinous crimes.

He was speaking as chief guest at the graduation ceremony of “advance class course” for police officers at Punjab Police College Sihala on Thursday.

Mr Asad said the government had accepted the challenge and responsibility of eliminating terrorism, sectarian hatred and violence from the society. He said the police must discharge their duties with full efficiency.

With the completion of the advance course, he said, the responsibilities of police officers concerned would increase, hence they should come up to the expectations of both the people and their department.

The DG congratulated the police officers on the completion of the course and distributed shields and appreciation certificates among best performers. Earlier, the police college commandant, Shamasul Hassan Mirza, delivered the welcome speech and highlighted the salient future of the four months course.

CUSTOMS OFFICIAL CAUGHT: A Customs official was caught red- handed by the army monitoring team while taking money from a passenger during the checking out of an Abu Dhabi flight Wednesday evening, a source said.

According to a source, a Customs official, identified as A.S, was caught red-handed by the army team when he was taking some Dirhams from a passenger. The accused was taken into custody, however, it was not known whether he was handed over to the local police.
