RIGA, Dec 14: Latvia’s prosecutor general on Friday dropped charges of hooliganism against a 16-year-old girl who swatted Prince Charles with a carnation in Riga last month to protest the war in Afghanistan.

Alina Lebedeva may instead be forced to do community work or face other correctional measures for minors, said spokeswoman for the prosecutor general’s office.

The prosecutor decided to drop the charges after Lebedeva apologized to Charles and on the grounds that she has no previous record.

“We have completed the criminal case and the prosecutor gathered information about the personality of Alina Lebedeva and found she is studying hard at school, has committed no previous crime and has sent her apologies to the prince”, the prosecutor said.—AFP
