Army upset HBL to grab title

KARACHI, June 13: Pak Army upset the odds when they toppled national champions Habib Bank Limited (HBL) 3-1 to capture women’s team event of Third Almas Ali Baig Master’s Cup table tennis championship played at Islamia Club on Friday.

Sadia Yasmeen gave HBL the ideal start beating Rabab Alam in four games. Putting behind the early loss Army girls never looked back winning the remaining three matches.

Mehtab Alam outlasted Saima Shamim, Seemab Alam and Mehtab Alam outclassed Sadia and Saima and Mehtab edged out Sadia.

Results: Pak Army bt Habib Bank by 3-1:

Rabab Alam (Army) lost to Sadia Yasmeen (HBL) 11-7,6-11,4-11,9-11, Mehtab Alam (Army) beat Saima Shamim (HBL) 9-11,11-7,11-9,9-11,11-5, Seemab Alam and Mehtab Alam (Army)bt Sadia and Saima (HBL) 11-9,12-10,12-10, Mehtab Alam(Army) bt Sadia Yasmeen (HBL) by 11-6,6-11,11-6,8-11-3.
