PESHAWAR, Oct 9: Afghan NGOs Coordination Bureau (ANCB) on Tuesday called upon the United Nations to establish camps for displaced people inside Afghanistan.

Speaking at a press conference here, ANCB Chairman Fazlullah Wahidi expressed concern over the deteriorating situation in Afghanistan and said conflicts and fighting followed by drought had deeply affected the Afghan society.

He expressed fear that the United States and its allies’ military strike on Afghanistan would cause another great humanitarian disaster and tragedy for the Afghan people. He said the closure of the borders by the neighbouring countries also multiplied the problems of the displaced people.

He pointed out that aid workers could not carry out relief operations inside Afghanistan due to ban on their movement and many organisations had stopped their activities. The situation increased the problems and sufferings of the common Afghans, he said.
