LAHORE, June 11: Representatives of the government and the opposition on Wednesday attended a meeting of the Punjab Assembly’s business advisory committee, and decided agenda for the session starting from June 12 on the latter’s request.
Speaker Chaudhry Afzal Sahi presided over the meeting in which both the sides pledged to run the proceedings amicably.
The participants discussed development schemes presented by the opposition members who promised to play a positive role in the continuation of the democratic process in the country.
Law Minister Basharat Raja assured that he would run the house in accordance with parliamentary norms. Law and order situation in the province was also included on the agenda.
The government was represented by Basharat Raja and Arshad Lodhi and the opposition by Qasim Zia, Rana Sanaullah, Asghar Ali Gujjar, Arshad Mehmood, Rana Aftab, Makhdoom Mukhtar Husain Shah, Saba Sadiq and Sheikh Amjad Aziz.
Later, Qasim Zia told Dawn that the government had assured a positive attitude during the session. “We will watch its attitude and then give our response accordingly,” he said.
He said the opposition would finalize its strategy for the session on Thursday morning. The government had also assured that it would discuss development schemes by the opposition, he added.
