SWABI, June 9: The NWFP minister for religious affairs and irrigation Hafiz Akhtar Ali said on Monday that the “conspiracy hatched against the NWFP government” was foiled by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal leaders with great courage.

At the peak of the crisis, the leaders of the religious parties had made it clear that they would never compromise on Islamic principles and democratic norms, the minister added.

Addressing public meetings in Shewa and Swabi irrigation office here, the minister said the MMA leadership was now working for a Islamic system at the federal level. He said the religious institutions were the fortress of Islam, and no one would be allowed to indulge in harming of these sacred institutions. He said all-out efforts would be made to allow these institutions to flourish.
