Acid attack disfigures three

BAHAWALPUR, June 9: Three people, including a eunuch, sustained burns in an acid attack in Mauza Habib Missan, about 20 kilometres from here, on Monday.

According to police, eunuch Zafar, along with his two companions Shabbir and an unidentified man, were sleeping in a house when Raashid allegedly threw acid on them. They were taken to hospital where the condition of Zafar was stated to be serious.

Police said Raashid had a rivalry with Zafar.The attacker is still at large.

It is the third incident of acid attack in the district during a month. Two children died in earlier attacks, while the condition of a woman, Zahooran, is stated to be serious.

Police could not arrest any of the suspects.

APCA: Cases under Anti-terrorist Act were registered against the seven arrested APCA office-bearers by the Civil Lines police on Monday.

Earlier, cases under PPC were registered against them on the charges of rioting and inciting others for a strike.

The arrested APCA officials are; Azhar Mahmood, Shahid Husain, Hafiz Mumtaz Ahmad, Yousaf Tareen, Abdul Rashid, Akram Shoaib and Matloob Husian.

LEGAL ACTION: The Punjab government has decided to take legal action against the people who defaced billboards having women’s faces.

Dawn learnt on Monday that the Punjab IGP directed the DPOs to take strict measures to stop such acts in future.

It is further learnt that on his directive, all the district governments were likely to impose a ban under Section 144 CrPC on such activities.
