LAHORE, Nov 17: Dark-bay colt Winning Player put up an amazing display of speed to win the Tariq Bin Ziyad Cup during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.

Trained by Amjad Ali II, Winning Player delighted race fans with a stunning burst of speed in the home stretch to beat bay filly Malik’s Love by over four lengths at the finishing line in the event run over 1,200 metres.

Bay colt Fire Prince struggled to place third with top weight bay filly Amazing Grace fourth among seven starters.

Winning Player completed a hat-trick of victories on Sunday since he had two straight victories earlier. He clocked one minute 12 3/5 seconds, the fastest timing registered during the ongoing season.

Trainers Amjad Ali II and Tauqir Ahmed had the distinction of saddling two winners each. Amjad sent out Winning Player and Wood Berry in the fifth and sixth races while Tauqir earned distinction by sending out Black ‘N’ Bold and All My Heart in the third and seventh races, respectively.

The Lahore Race Club (LRC) honoured seven-year-old bay mare Kitten who became the first ever runner to register 200 outings on the Lahore Racecourse when she ran fourth in the first race.

LRC steward Sheikh Sajjad Hasan came in the paddock to garland the mare and present a cheque of Rs20,000 to her owner to acknowledge Kitten’s record of runs at a simple ceremony.

In her 200 outings Kitten won 13 races and was placed 68 times in her four-year racing career and is still going strong. On Sunday, she finished third in the opening race. Results:
