THIS is with reference to Dr Noman Ahmad’s article, ‘V’ for vision and ‘C’ for clear (Nov 10). In referring to what he calls, “many examples of university leadership during post-independence phase in Pakistan”, he missed a great name: Prof A.B.A Haleem, affectionately called Aba Haleem.

He was the first vice chancellor of the University of Karachi, if I correctly remember the greatest vice chancellor of his time and one of the greatest of all times.

He was an Oxonian of yore, a scholar of repute and, above all, a good human being. Very humble, kind hearted and refinement personified. Prof Haleem was a model of excellence, a model vice chancellor.
