Canal breach Damages crops

TOBA TEK SINGH, June 7: Standing crops on hundreds of acres of land in Chak 387-JB Alhar Pind and its adjacent villages were damaged when a 24-foot wide breach occurred in Khewra minor of Jhang branch canal on Saturday.

Farmers and irrigation department staff took five hours to plug the breach.

An inquiry has been ordered by the irrigation XEN.

CLERKS STRIKE: On the call given by the All-Pakistan Clerks Association (APCA), clerical staff of the government departments observed a pen down strike on Saturday.

They were demanding raise in their salaries and allowances.

LAWYERS’ PROTEST: Kamalia lawyers observed a complete strike on Saturday against the police excess with the Punjab Assembly members in Lahore.

The strike call was given by the Punjab Bar Council.

ACCIDENT: A woman died and her son seriously wounded when a tractor-trolley hit them near Kamalia on Saturday.

Rashida and her son Khalid, residents of Chak 709-GB, were on their way to Kamalia by a bicycle when the accident took place.
