QUETTA, June 6: The Pushto Literary Movement has announced that it would organize a seminar in the provincial metropolis to promote the Pushto language and literature.

Scholars from London, America, Germany, Iran, Afghanistan and the Pukhtun areas in Pakistan and Afghanistan would be invited to read their papers on Pushto and its literature.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday the president of the Pushto Literary Movement, Naseem Saba, said that the language needed attention as it was ignored by the successive governments, and moreover it should be made as a medium of instruction in the Pukhtun dominated areas of the country.

The Pushto scholar said that the language was not even given proper status while formulating strategies for the promotion of regional languages through television, radio or media.

About the seminar, the Pushto Literary Movement president said that soon a date would be announced for holding the seminar.

The scholar urged the government to promote local languages, adding that Unesco had also asked all the countries to give proper status to the first languages of the respective regions.

KILLED: Two unidentified motorcyclists gunned down an official of Geological Survey of Pakistan, Quetta, near the department office here on Friday.

According to eyewitnesses, unknown bike riders near the main gate of the department attacked Syed Naiz Ali Shah, a superintendent of the GSP.

The deceased was also a local leader of Imam bargah Al-bait Satellite Town. His body was sent to Chakwal for burial.

The Sariab police station has registered a case against unknown assassins.
